Conflicts should occur frequently, because when they are managed constructively, they have many positive outcomes such as increasing the motivation and energy to solve problems. This was proved by Inter House Telugu Debate Competition which was organised on various topics for V to X class students on 11August 2017.

Class wise topics were as follows:

Class   Topic

V  & VI Is  competitive attitude  necessary  in education?

VII & VIII Is  social media for the development of mankind?

IX & X Nuclear family or Joint family .

SK. Fahamil  Hussain, M. Indumathi, G. Sailu Brinda, P. Gowtham of class V & VI spoke supporting competitive attitude. They said that it enables the students to compete with others and also to learn lessons from failures.  K. Ruth Madhavi,   T. Aravind, P. Vishnu Vardhan, M. Kalayan Deep  rebutted them, arguing that the competitive attitude increases the stress on students to get first ranks without commensurate benefits. They said that but to enhance their critical thinking, problem solving skills it is better to provide a stress free, amiable environment and give them a chance to observe the qualities like discipline, hard work and moral values among competitors. However, the debate brought out the fact that allowing students to research on both sides of an issue and then debate, awakens their critical thinking in a powerful way.  Competitive attitude can help them feel and energize them to take on challenging tasks.

Social media has taken the world by storm.  It has become the best  media to transfer and share  information and knowledge around the world.  Many pros and cons of Social media were debated by the VII & VIII class students.  Y. Sampath Kumar, V. Sai Vinay Verma, Y. Sriteja and R. Manideep expressed that  nowadays social media plays a vital role in connecting the people across the continents to gain and share the vast knowledge. A. Keerthana, J. M. Pavithra, V. Kethan Sharma, V. Saipraneeth stated that social media disturbs the relationships and deprives the people of  emotional connection. It kills the habit of reading books and playing outdoor games. Both groups of speakers made well analysed statements which were really thought provoking and impressed the audience.

Family is a basic social unit consisting of parents, children and other near and dear.  Giving importance to the family is good but each individual should be given freedom of choice and expression irrespective of age and gender.  Class IX & X students,  N. S. S. Surya  Kiran,      B. Sailikitha,  Ch. Jaswanth, R. Rithika supported their arguments with convincing  detail. They said that a joint family creates an environment  for the  family members to learn  discipline, helping nature, cherish our culture and learn how to respect our elders and parents.  E. Jahnavi, V. Manoj, K. Asrita Vatsala, M. Raghavendra opposed them with some plain speaking devoid of sentiment. They felt that members of a nuclear family have more freedom and individuality. Children from these  families are able to solve their problems on their own and express their opinions smoothly.
